“Central and Eastern Europe: War as a Problem of the Modern World - Theory, Practice, Cultural Context”

The problem of war demands today more and more interdisciplinary approach than ever before. Modern times are more and more enveloped in an atmosphere of uncertainty. Society and economy, and also the culture exposed to the processes of hybridization, which is expressed in a bright and unique forms of conflict, war and terrorism.

The conference, to which we invite, will try to comprehend some aspects of the problems stated in the title. We invite philosophers, political scientists, sociologists, cultural scientists, literary critics and experts in the field of war.

We offer the following topics for discussion:

  • philosophy and anthropology of war;
  • political determinants of war;
  • cultural aspects of war;
  • the social consequences of war;
  • the essence of modern warfare;
  • the mechanisms of modern warfare;
  • the evolution of modern warfare;
  • war in popular culture;
  • literary diagnoses and assumptions regarding war ;
  • tools of modern warfare and their sociocultural consequences;
  • war and religion;
  • war and conflict of civilizations;
  • war and the problem of identity;
  • the law of war;
  • terrorism and its new looks ;
  • idealization and glorification of war



We are asking to apply for participation along with an abstract in polish and english (for scholars from Polish research centers) or in english and in the language of the speech (for foreign participants ) until 20 April 2019 to the address

The maximum size of an abstract should not exceed half of a standard A4 page. Information on the acceptance of the application and the inclusion of the paper to the Program of Conference is sent until April 25, 2019.

Languages of conference - English, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian.


The cost of the organizational fee for participation in the conference is 350 PLN for researchers from Poland or 60 Euro for foreign participants. The cost of the organizational fee includes the cost of printing the conference materials in a peer-reviewed scientific monograph (the maximum amount of an article for publication should not exceed one printed sheet), however the maximum time for speaking at the conference is 20 minutes (approximately 6 pages of a standard A4 sheet) - detailed Information on this topic will be provided after the application is accepted.

To the attention of participants: travel, accommodation, meals, excursion program at the expense of conference participants.
